The origin of the TikTok trending phrase 'Berchyandyaa'

TikTok's timeline is currently crowded with content including the sound "berchyandyaa," ranging from content makers to artists emulating these phrases. But do viewers realize where this joke came from?

According to Wolipop, the TikTok account @thesadewa initially shared the joke "berchyandyaa" with a video of an interview with two new students from Gajah Mada University (UGM). Danang, the content creator at the time, inquired about their stay at UGM.

Danang's query was then spontaneously answered by one of the new students, Abigail.

"So is it easy or difficult to enter UGM?" Danang inquired.

"I don't know, I think we're on a hockey track," Abigail's pal explained.

"Hockey's path is correct because he's simply clever," Abigail added.

"Bercyandya, berchyandyaa," he said once more.

This appears to have captured the interest of internet users as well. Abigail's facial expression and tone of voice while jokingly pronouncing the word 'berchyandyaa' became viral on TikTok after she responded to this query. Abigail's hands also moved as she responded. The video has been seen over 42.5 million times thus far.

His comments have since gone viral, and many other TikTokers, including artists Rafael Tan, Tiara Andini, Aldi Taher, Ayu Dewi, and Ziva Magnolya, have mimicked them.

The word 'berchyandyaa' is a play on the word joking.

The KBBI defines joking as "acting, and joking."
